What defines self-empowerment is a question often asked but so many people misinterpret its true meaning.
Self-empowerment involves taking control of your life, setting goals, achieving these goals, maintaining a positive mindset, and making your best life happen.
Self-empowerment is knowing who you are, loving yourself, believing in yourself, being ready to fight the good fight, and travel the path to becoming who you were meant to be.
Self-empowerment means improving your weaknesses and fine-tuning your strengths.
On a first date once, I was talking about my writing and how I’ve been doing it for so long, its second nature to me.
My date asked, “Most writers never succeed. How do you know you will succeed?”
I responded without hesitation, “Of course I’m going to succeed. It’s what I was born to do.”
He was stunned at how entrenched I was in the power of my own abilities and my complete lack of interest in external validation.
He told me later on that made him a bit jealous because he had never met anyone so sure of who they were including himself.
This is who I have always been. I’ve never needed anyone to tell me who I am.
This is self-empowerment in a nutshell although there are many other facets to it.
What Defines Self-Empowerment?
The journey from knowing the definition of self-empowerment to becoming a self-empowered individual, however, are two different things.
A lot of people spend an entire lifetime talking about becoming empowered without actually doing anything to empower themselves or make a life change that will initiate the process of self-empowerment.
You see, there are four things that need to happen to become a self-empowered person:-
4 Steps to Self-Empowerment
1. Believe in Yourself
Unshakable and undeniable belief in yourself. Don’t let someone tell you it cannot be done or you cannot do it.
2. Educate Yourself
Equip yourself with the skills and knowledge to make things happen. Things cannot happen in a vacuum if you don’t know how to make it happen.
You don’t have to go into debt for it either. Udemy and Coursera offer thousands of invaluable courses on almost every subject you can think of.
3. Create An Action Plan
Great and powerful ideas are nice but they’re not going to get very far unless there’s an implementable action plan created to back them up.
An action plan keeps you focused and helps you kickstart the process.
4. Mindset
Elevate your mindset to the point where you become determined and equipped with the fortitude required to see things through.
A lot of people stumble around the action plan partly because it looks too much like work or because they’re tied down in debt.
The truth is – it is work but the journey itself is empowering and the result at the end of that journey is the beauty of you.
No one can travel this journey for you and no one can do this for you. If other people could do this for you, it wouldn’t be called self-empowerment.
