1. Create an Affirmation Wall
An affirmation wall is an area in your bedroom where you put up positive post its that you can see and read every day.
Write positive things that speak to you on them and paste it on the wall. In How to Get Started on Your Self-Empowerment Journey, I shared one of my daily affirmations.
The more you read and repeat these affirmations to yourself, the more you reinforce a positive mindset that can help you achieve anything you set yourself to.
2. Love Yourself
Do not rely on anyone to validate you or reaffirm your awesomeness to you. This isn’t someone else’s responsibility. This is your responsibility.
Love everything about yourself and who you are. Understand that there is no one else like you on this earth and you are unique.
Let this fact sink into your subconscious.
3. Don’t Berate Yourself
Listen, you’re not chocolate. You aren’t perfect. You are going to make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes.
Learn from yours and move on. Don’t wallow in the mistakes, berating yourself, and convincing yourself that’s why you ain’t shit.
You cannot be perfect. If it were possible for any being to be perfect, life would be incredibly boring.
You are the bee’s knees, ok? Warts, mistakes, and all…
What? Yes, exercise can empower you. Exercise elevates your mood, boosts brain activity, and makes you feel more confident. Of course, you also look good.
Getting fit through exercise also indirectly helps you take charge of your life. It doesn’t have to be something intense either.
A twenty-minute walk every day or a short run is more than enough but if the plan is getting in shape, you will need more intense activity.
Try Beachbody or Jillian Michaels home workout programs. They range from easy for beginners to advanced level workouts.
5. Sleep Well
Sleep deprivation can be a terrible thing. It can seriously affect your concentration level and the ability to think and plan properly.
In the last job I had before I became self-employed, I was sleep-deprived for years. I could not hear myself think from exhaustion.
The only time I could plan and come up with ideas properly was on the weekend after sleeping for up to 12 hours straight over a Friday night.
Endeavor to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night as much as you can. You can’t and shouldn’t cheat sleep.
A good night’s sleep can make all the difference in the world.
6. Do Something Different
Do something different and outside your comfort zone. There was a time I woke up and decided to learn basic HTML just because.
I am not an IT person and that’s not my career leaning but I wanted to challenge myself to learn something different. I ended up using it in my online career.
